What Micron has learned from CNY six months after Clay megafab announcement

It has been six months since Micron announced plans to invest of up to $100 billion to build a new megafab in Central New York (Clay). We look forward to bringing leading-edge memory manufacturing to Central New York and building the workforce of the future that is trained for jobs in the semiconductor industry at scale. We appreciate the warm welcome from the community and look forward to continuing our work with academic partners, local and state leaders and the broader community.

Looking back, Micron is proud of the contributions made to the Central New York community, including:

  • $500,000 to the YMCA of Central New York to help expand access to high-quality childcare and early learning opportunities for underserved communities.
  • $500,000 to the Museum of Science and Technology and investments to support Chip Camps across the region, like the inaugural Central New York Chip Camp held in Liverpool for 120 middle schoolers.
  • The recent launch of the Northeast University Semiconductor Network — which includes Clarkson, Columbia, Cornell, CUNY, RIT, RPI, SUNY, Syracuse University and other regional universities outside of New York— to support diverse student programing and experiential learning opportunities in STEM fields.
  • The announcement of the members and co-chairs of the Micron Community Engagement Committee alongside Governor Kathy Hochul, County Executive Ryan McMahon and town of Clay Supervisor Damian Ulatowski.

For all we’ve learned in the past six months, we know there is much more to research and understand. In line with the goals we’ve set for ourselves, we will continue to be focused on where we can have the greatest long-term impact on the region.

She leads Micron’s people strategy with a focus on inspiring a culture that embraces performance, growth and inclusion for our global diverse workforce. Arnzen has led the transformation of many of Micron’s people programs and is passionate about strengthening DEI at Micron and in the communities where we live and work.
